The challenge was to implement a z39.50 server for the IEEE Global Earth Observations System of Systems Standards Register. Having no experience with this whatsoever, we turned to sql.z3950.org for support. Mike Taylor went the extra mile to help plan and provide support. After installing relatively simple server components as clearly outlined on sql.z3950.org's support pages, all we really had to do was write the config file. I wrote and tested the entire config file myself in one afternoon! I could test it and see exactly how the config translated into a query. I love it when things just work!
